Buy the final front ears

Star Trek buffs are preparing to boldly go where no fan has gone before ... on to an Internet auction site to buy a pair of Mr Spock's ears.

The Vulcan's spectacular pointed appendages will be up for sale on eBay tonight as part of a huge collection of famous movie and television props.

Although firmly attached to actor Leonard Nimoy during the classic television space series, the ears were made of moulded rubber and stuck on - and the price is expected to go into warp speed as Trekkies bid.

However, anyone missing out on the ears might console themselves with Cleopatra's headdress, as worn by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 movie about the Egyptian queen.

Also on sale will be Marilyn Monroe's red outfit from How To Marry A Millionaire and Alicia Silverstone's check suit from the 1995 comedy Clueless.

For the more pious movie fan, there is the chance to own a pair of tablets inscribed with The Ten Commandments - from the 1956 blockbuster movie of the same name starring Charlton Heston as Moses. The tablets, one of four pairs made for the Cecil B. DeMille production, are expected to fetch between £30,000 and £45,000. Their design was based on thousands of sketches by Egyptologists hired by the movie mogul.

Made from thick glass fibre, each one was hand-painted to resemble the red and black speckled granite of Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Commandments from God.

Adding to the authenticity, the translucent white engraved lettering spelling out the edicts is in early Canaanite script, the precursor of the Hebrew alphabet.

Some 450 items are expected to attract huge numbers of fans vying to own a small, or in some cases large, piece of film and television history.

For those with deeper pockets, there is the chance to bid for David Hasselhoff's talking car KITT, the souped-up black Pontiac TransAm from the television action series Knight Rider. It is expected to go for between £30,000 and £45,000. Then there is the flashy Ferrari 308 GTS driven by Tom Selleck in Magnum PI, estimated at £50,000 to £70,000.

Other items include clothes worn by stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, and Judy Garland - and Darryl Hannah's mermaid tail from Splash.

The memorabilia is being sold by Profiles in History, one of the world's top celebrity auction houses. Its president, Joseph Maddalena, said: 'The Ten Commandments are probably one of the most iconic motion picture props in history - I'm sure they'll do well. But these auctions are very unpredictable. These are emotional purchases.'

The sale will be held on eBay at 9pm tonight.
