British film-maker Gurinder Chadha is to direct the Hollywood remake of Dallas, it was reported today
The Bend It Like Beckham director is in final negotiations with studio bosses at 20th Century Fox, according to industry bible Variety.
The movie will star Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen and John Travolta as JR Ewing.
Shirley MacLaine is set to play matriarch Miss Ellie, with Luke Wilson as Bobby.
Chadha will replace Robert Luketic, who dropped out over "creative issues".
The director was born in Kenya and raised in Southall, west London.
After making her breakthrough with Bhaji On The Beach in 1993, she scored her biggest hit in 2002 with Bend It Like Beckham, which made a star of Keira Knightley.
Bride And Prejudice, an update of the Jane Austen classic, followed in 2004.
Chadha is currently directing a remake of I Dream Of Jeannie. The original TV show starred Larry Hagman - who went on to play JR in Dallas.
