Brad's tearing his hair out

David Harding10 April 2012

Do you still fancy him? It is a dilemma that has divided Brad Pitt's legions of female admirers as his famous looks have retreated behind a ball of fur.

But fans of the actor, twice voted the sexiest man on the planet, can now return to a state of unreserved adoration.

In what is probably the most expensive shave in history, Pitt is paying £12million to back out of his latest film - leaving him free to reclaim his chin.

He is said to have parted with the cash to quit sci-fi movie The Fountain because of 'worries about the complexity of the script'.

But actress wife Jennifer Aniston, who was far from enamoured with the shaggy look, may have played a role.

Pitt's unkempt appearance has livened up numerous Hollywood showbiz events in recent months.

His beard grew so long that Pitt, 38, was said to have nicknamed it Bin Laden.

He abandoned the razor in preparation for the £40million film, which includes a storyline set 500 years in the past.

He was paid a £12million advance but the project was postponed for script rewrites and co-star Cate Blanchett's pregnancy. There were also whispers that Pitt was unhappy that The Fountain was to be filmed on Australia's Gold Coast.

He was said to have preferred Sydney, where he was planning to set up home with Aniston for six months.

Director Darren Aronofsky, who made 1997 hit Pi, is said to be looking for a replacement of equal calibre - possibly Mel Gibson or Johnny Depp.

But a clean-shaven Pitt will not go hungry. He is reported to be in talks about two new films, a version of Homer's Iliad and a Francis Ford Coppola adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On the Road.
