Alec Baldwin has been announced as the latest star to join DC’s upcoming Joker movie.

The actor will appear alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the film, playing Batman’s father and business magnate Thomas Wayne.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals he’ll appear as “a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump”.

Traditionally, the character of Batman is determined to pursue a life of vigilantism after witnessing his parents’ death at a young age.

Baldwin has become known for his Trump impression on Saturday Night Live over recent years and the actor could look to channel the US President in the role.

He’s the latest big name to join the project, after Robert De Niro, Deadpool star Zazie Beetz and comedian Marc Maron were all previously announced.

Joker is directed by Todd Phillips and arrives in cinemas on October 2019.

Meanwhile, Baldwin recently claimed that he could "absolutely" win against Trump if he ran for President in 2020.
