Adoption joy for Thornton and Jolie

Cliff Renfrew10 April 2012

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie have won their battle to adopt a baby from Cambodia.

Jolie's father, Ali star Jon Voight, announced the news by saying he had just become a grandfather, at an Oscars nominee lunch in California.

His Tomb Raider star daughter and her husband have spent £150,000 to cut through red tape blocking the adoption. Thornton, 46, and Jolie, 26, travelled to Cambodia in October to finalise the plans and their lawyers managed to secure US resident status for the child. It is understood the pair are in Cambodia preparing to fly their new son back to their £5 million Beverly Hills mansion.

The Oscar-winning actress fell in love with Cambodia during a United Nations goodwill trip last year.

Thornton's fourth wife, Pietra Cherniak, mother of his two sons William, 8, and Henry, 7, said the adoption has her blessing. Billy Bob also has a daughter, Amanda, 23.
