A postcard from the edge

10 April 2012

Treacherous cars feature heavily in this multi-layered Finnish thriller. So do drugs, booze, a forged e500 note and revenge.

Inspired by a Tolstoy novella, the script is equally indebted to the work of Alejandro Gonzales Iñarritu (Amores Perros and 21 Grams).

As in those films, the crisscrossing narratives sometimes veer into melodrama; but mostly the dazed and confused characters are allowed to stumble around - and kill - quietly. A postcard from the edge that makes you glad you don't live in Helsinki.
