A major retrospective of the provocative American artist's work opens at the V&A in London on February 15 and runs until May 19.

The exhibition display provides an overview of her career from the 1960s to the present day, ahead of the publication of her book, Barbara Nessim: An Artful Life. One of the first female illustrators, Nessim's drawings and illustrations have appeared on the cover of Time, Rolling Stone and Harper's Bazaar and, a digital pioneer, she was one of the first illustrators to work with computers.

As well as producing a wide range of highly distinctive artworks, Nessim has also worked as a fashion designer, creating everything from shoes and textiles to commercial graphics.

Barbara Nessim: An Artful Life is at the V&A from Febrary 15-May 19 2013. vam.ac.uk.
