Overhyped pony

Charlotte Hudson and Leila Hackett
5 April 2012

Charlotte Hudson and Leila Hackett's highly recommended show was a disappointment. This duo has an impressive TV CV, from presenting to co-writing Smack The Pony but while their vignettes were slick they were a bit soulless.

Sophisticated satire means more than the smug juxtaposition of Henry VIII's wife gossiping to a seaside hairdresser.

And in the same way Mel & Sue irritatingly droned on about Lovejoy being hilarious, H & H singled out Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson as their naff cultural touchstone, featuring them in a bad-wigged running gag that never really left the starting blocks.

Overhyped.

Until 27 August (edfringe.com).
