Harry Potter fans who weren’t lucky enough to get their hands on tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the new play based on the popular wizarding franchise, will be able to read the script as a book this summer, it has been announced.

The script, written by Jack Thorne, will be published by Little Brown UK on July 31 with online fansite Pottermore also publishing the e-book edition, The Bookseller confirmed.

Super fans should be able to avoid spoilers about the latest instalment of the Harry Potter story too, as the book will be released just one day after the play opens in London. The official release date also happens to be the same day as The Chosen One’s birthday.

The storyline catches up with Harry, Ron and Hermione 19 years after the seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, ended in 2007.

As Pottermore describes, “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.”

The first printing of the book will be a “Special Rehearsal Edition,” reflecting the script from the early part of the preview period, and a later “Definitive Collector’s Edition” will present the finalized version.

Watch this space, Potter fans.
