Stars of London’s stage celebrate in Mayfair at the 67th annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Tom Hiddleston, Sheila Atim, Hayley Atwell and David Tennant joined Sir Elton John and Boy George among celebrities attending Sunday’s Claridge’s extravaganza.

The event was hosted by the Standard proprietor Lord Lebedev with help from Ian McKellen, and presented by Susan Wokoma.

Fleabag star Andrew Scott won best actor - accepted on his behalf by Jenna Coleman - for his role in Vanya, beating shortlisted Normal People actor Paul Mescal for his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Nicole Scherzinger scooped the Best Musical Performance award for her show-stopping role in Sunset Boulevard.

This year, two Editor’s Awards were presented - the first to Ruth Wilson, acknowledging her marathon 24-hour show The Second Woman.

The second recipient was Sir Elton, in recognition of his collaborative approach to musical theatre, including The Lion King, Billy Elliot and Tammy Faye, which was also nominated for Best Musical.

A Streetcar Named Desire co-stars Patsy Ferran and Anjana Varsan shared the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress for their performances in the Tennessee Williams classic.

Jack Thorne’s The Motive and the Cue - set behind the scenes of the 1964 Broadway production of Hamlet starring Richard Burton and directed by Sir John Gielgud - was named Best Play, and its director Sam Mendes also took the Lebedev Award for his dedication to theatre.

In this podcast, the Standard’s culture team reviews the winners from this year’s ceremony honouring actors, writers and directors’ best work on the London stage.

Plus, you can hear full versions of the interviews in this episode - and much more - in a special awards edition of the Evening Standard’s Theatre podcast.
