The Reader: Lee Cain’s gone — but will Vote Leave still rule?

By BBC News at Ten, however, Cain had resigned, apparently because Carrie Symonds objected to his promotion. No matter, Cummings and Cain are just two of about 10 former employees from “Vote Leave”, who now work for Downing Street. Cain may have gone but on the face of it someone from “Vote Leave” could take his place.

Dear David

You’re right about the grip the Vote Leave campaign has had over Downing Street. It’s something that has infuriated traditional Conservative MPs who see characters like Dominic Cummings as imposters. They want the Prime Minister to have a team that listens to them, rather than holds them in contempt.

As powerful backbenchers grow increasingly frustrated with their own government, I think Lee Cain’s departure could just signal the start of a major shift.

Stop ban on church services

The socially distanced Armistice Day service at Westminster Abbey was hugely moving. But it begs the question of why the Government has refused to allow similarly sensible religious services. Schools are full. Many workplaces are open. That religion is not even in the queue is shameful.

Masks for kids

I’d like to ask the Government why children are exempt from wearing masks at school. I get the bus to work and it is full of kids without masks  — no wonder people avoid public transport.
