Light work: the next government needs to improve the country’s mental health services
Charlotte Reed for May The Thoughts Be With You

Today marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week. Mental health is one of the biggest domestic issues facing the next Government.

More people than ever are speaking out and demanding change. Our expectations for better mental health are higher than ever and the next Government must rise to this challenge.

This weekend we heard good commitments from two of the political parties about what they would do for mental health — we want to see all parties make it a priority.

One in four of us will experience a mental health problem each year, so every parliamentary candidate from every party needs to accept and embrace mental health as a key issue for their constituency.

We look forward to hearing what commitments they will make to improve services and support.
