Webuyanycar.com valuations misleading, says OFT

It was voted the second-most annoying TV ad last year in a poll of marketing experts but now online retailer webuyanycar.com faces a far graver problem.

The Office of Fair Trading today ruled the website's valuations for used cars were misleading because when consumers later sold their vehicle in person, they often received far less.

An OFT investigation found: "Nearly 96% of customers who sold their car to webuyanycar.com received less for their vehicle than the original website valuation, sometimes by hundreds of pounds."

The owners of webuyanycar.com have given a series of undertakings to the OFT to be more transparent and change their behaviour.
