T-Mobile merger with Orange is free to go ahead

T-Mobile's merger of its UK operation with Orange got the green light from the European Union regulators tonight.

The EU's decision came after the owners, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom, agreed to surrender some radio spectrum and help smaller rival Hutchison 3G UK in order to assuage competition concerns.

The Office of Fair Trading agreed the concessions were adequate.
