Russian 'in talks to buy Hummer'

11 April 2012

General Motors is said to be in talks with Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska on a possible sale of its Hummer brand.

Deripaska, Russia's richest man, has not yet made a bid, insiders say and GM would not comment on the reports.

The struggling US auto firm has not formally put Hummer on the market.

Deripaska and GM are believed to have had talks about joint expansion plans for Russia.

The Russian bought 20% of Canadian auto-parts maker Magna in 2007 and is said to want to supply parts to Hummer.

GM is trying to raise up to $4 billion (£2.14 billion) through asset sales.
