Rexam up on plans to sell its lids unit

The world's biggest maker of drinks cans, Rexam, saw shares surge more than 5% to 375.9p today after weekend reports that it was getting ready to sell one of its divisions for £200 million.

The firm is said to have hired Barclays Capital as an adviser on the potential sale of the operation, which makes lids for drinks containers. Rexam, which returned to profit in the first half of last year, said in December that it was considering a sale of the unit.
