Price of gold at record high

Gold prices hit a record high of $1422.30 an ounce today, as worries over the health of weaker European nations such as Greece and Ireland sent investors into the safe haven.

The FTSE 100 rose 44.01 to a fresh two-year high of 5893.97 helped by strong corporate results and a fillip for miners from higher copper prices.
