Playtech thrives as people take a punt

Austerity might be in vogue but gambling remains a growth business, according to Playtech, the AIM-listed software house that makes kit for online poker providers.

It said daily activity last month rose more than 7% compared with its third-quarter average.

Chief executive Mor Weizer said today: "After the seasonal slowdown and the aftermath of the World Cup, September as expected was a stronger month, and we see this positive trend continuing."

Revenue for the three months to September was up 30% on the year before at 41.3 million (£36 million).
