Pets at Home scales heights with reptiles

11 April 2012

The fashion for low-maintenance pets has helped Pets at Home report a 250% leap in sales of reptiles and related items, including the crickets they eat.

That trend helped keep overall sales, up 10.3% in the past year, moving forward. Profits rose nearly 9% to £79 million. The group opened 25 stores, 14 grooming salons and 14 in-store veterinary practices.

Matthew Davies, chief executive, said: "Despite the extremely challenging economic climate, we continued to maintain our track record of growth throughout 2010, increasing turnover, profits and opening new stores."

The retailer is to create 700 full or part-time jobs this year.
