Tax alert for parents
Parents: the 31 January deadline for filing online self-assessment tax returns is fast approaching, and for the first time many of you could be in line for a fine if you don’t file one but do claim Child Benefit. From this year, parents who earn more than £50,000 a year and collect Child Benefit will have to complete a self-assessment return. HM Revenue & Customs estimates that about 1.2 million families will be caught up, so remember to file a return by the end of this month.
