Kraft Heinz Unilever: How deal would create world's biggest packaged foods group

Jamie Nimmo17 February 2017

Kraft Heinz has confirmed it has made an approach to merge with consumer goods giant Unilever.

The deal would see the enlarged group overtake Nestle as the biggest packaged foods company by global market share.

That's according to data from Euromonitor:

  • Nestle 2.8%
  • PepsiCo 2.1%
  • Mondelez 2%
  • Unilever 1.6%
  • Kraft Heinz 1.4%
  • Danone 1.3%
  • Mars 1.3%

Combining Unilever and Kraft Heinz would give the pair a global market share of 3%, ahead of Nestle's 2.8%.

If they agree a deal, it is likely to come under intense scrutiny from competition watchdogs around the world.
