Jimmy Choo sales get a lift from men’s shoes and handbags

Jimmy Choo may be best known for its skyscraper heels, but fashion fans snapping up handbags and men’s footwear helped sales jump 7% last year, the luxury-goods brand said.

Its men’s division made “excellent progress” and remained one of its fastest-growing categories in 2015, the firm said.

Fragrances and small handbags were also popular.

Jimmy Choo noted a strong performance in Asia and Japan, offsetting the impact in Europe of terror attacks.

Unlike other luxury brands such as Burberry and Prada, Jimmy Choo did not refer to a tough China market where retailers have been battling tough sales.

Its chairman, Peter Harf, said his company “continues to outpace the sector despite the challenging competitive environment”.

Revenue was also boosted by the opening of 16 stores, bringing the total to 141. Plans for 2016 include up to another 15 more stores.

The City welcomed the update and shares climbed 1.2p to 128.5p.

Piral Dadhania, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets said it was encouraging against “a tough sector backdrop”.
