Harley-Davidson shares up on bid rumour

Shares in US motorbike giant Harley-Davidson jumped more than 5% tonight on takeover speculation.

The stock hit $27.91 in heavy trading in New York to value the firm at over $6.5 billion (£4.2 billion).

Harley-Davidson struggled in the recession which hit demand for its motorbikes. It suffered its first quarterly loss since 1993 in the final three months of last year as US and overseas sales sank.
