Chanel and Calvin Klein are latest St Pancras International high-end arrivals

New arrivals: A host of fashion brands are to open shops at St Pancras International

Chanel and Calvin Klein are among a string of upmarket fashion brands which on Tuesday unveiled plans to invest in new shops at King’s Cross, an area once known for being more seedy than suave.

The labels, which have respectively been advertised by actress Keira Knightley and singer Justin Bieber, are set to open at St Pancras International station before the end of the summer.

Other new entrants to the building include clothing retailers Ted Baker and Petit Bateau, stationery brand Kikki K, and cafe chain Joe and the Juice.

The brands were attracted to the station’s huge footfall with around 48 million people visiting St Pancras every year.

They will also be surrounded by a host of office-worker customers, following companies such as LVMH and Google opening London headquarters in the area.

St Pancras International reopened in 2007 after an £800 million restoration project and boasts more shops than any other railway station, its own fresh-produce market, the longest champagne bar in Europe and a gastropub.

Wendy Spinks, commercial director of HS1 which owns St Pancras International, said: "Retailers are opening at this station because it connects them directly to people from Europe, the local population, and of course commuters."

She added: "We are confident that this will remain the case regardless of Brexit."
