For many young graduates the ideal job is one at a hip new technology start up, complete with ping pong and bubble chairs in the office. A major telecoms company is hoping to make this dream more achievable by offering paid internships at tech companies it mentors.
Telefonica, the Spanish owner of O2, today revealed it is will offer 130 paid internships at its various Wayra Academies – hothouses for digital start-ups it mentors for six months. Interns will have the chance to join one of these businesses, which in the past have included a social network for hosting dinner parties, educational game Night Zoo Keeper and a company which creates picture based passwords.
Simon Devonshire, director of Wayra Europe said: “There is always an incredible learning opportunity in working with any start-up. The Wayra start-ups are even more special because they are inherently digital.”
The internships, which will be a minimum of six months, have been organised in partnership with Enternships, an online platform which helps people find internships and graduate jobs in start-up businesses.
The positions will be offered at Wayra Academies in Munich, Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona and Prague, with eight positions at its London Academy near Goodge Street.
