Dido Harding, chief executive of broadband provider TalkTalk, today said she supported moves to automatically block pornography from the internet.
She said: “We don’t make a choice for our customers at the moment but we strongly suggest that they keep porn blocked. It is likely that in future new customers will find that we have pre-ticked porn filtering in their package.” She said TalkTalk has already seen high take-up of filtering with its HomeSafe package, which it offers free to its subscribers with around a third of those who use it choosing to block mainly pornography.
Harding also said while TalkTalk regularly remains towards the top of the regulators’ list for complaints, it was moving in the right direction. She said: “each quarter our complaint levels are coming down but we know we still have much to do.”
TalkTalk grew revenues by 1.7% in the past three months and said it was on course to meet its targets for the financial year to March 2014.
Harding is particularly pleased with the extra 160,000 customers signing up for its cheap pay-TV offering, which has taken the total to 390,000. Their choices have been dominated by blockbuster family films like The Hobbit.
