Porsche up a gear with worldwide sales record

The global pinch has yet to reach the Porsche-driving classes, according to the luxury carmaker.

Germany-based Porsche AG today said it has already accelerated to record sales of 128,978 cars worldwide in the 11 months to November, beating the 118,868 sold in the whole of last year.

Sales and marketing director Bernhard Maier said: “The fact we have already surpassed the previous year’s result in November is no reason for us to rest on our laurels. On the contrary, it is an incentive to deliver maximum performance in the next year.”

Porsche has seen surging demand for its cars in 2012 with sales last month alone up 39% on last year. The company said its third-generation Boxster has proved the most popular model internationally.

The boom in sales has been driven by China and the US, where demand last month was 70% higher than November 2011.

New World and Far East money has proved crucial in offsetting the 7.1% fall in car sales across Europe this year.

The result is good news for Volkswagen, which completed a €4.46 billion (£3.6 billion) takeover of the carmaker in July. Porsche said at the time it expects to increase profit this year as record vehicle sales help offset high costs for model launches and factory extensions.
