The Oscars may be over for another year, but for finance directors across the country, their version is just getting going.

The shortlist for the FDs’ Excellence Awards — supported by the Evening Standard and held to recognise the top bean-counters — has been unveiled, with number-crunchers from BT, easyJet and William Hill all up for the top prize.

Among those vying to be FTSE 100 FD of the Year will be the budget airline’s Chris Kennedy, the bookie’s Neil Cooper and Tony Chanmugam from the telecoms giant. Also shortlisted are builders’ merchant Wolseley’s John Martin, Tim Score of chipmaker Arm and defence group Babcock’s Bill Tame.

It is one of 13 gongs which will be handed out at the ceremony — held in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales — on May 1 at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square.
