News in brief: Eurozone boosted as inflation drops, Rolls-Royce creates jobs at Heathrow, ITV signs new deal with gaming firm

European Central Bank president Mario Draghi was given room for a potential interest rate cut to spur on the struggling single currency bloc today as its inflation hit 1.8% in February, its lowest level since August 2010.

Easing food and drink prices, as well as waning pricing pressure from services firms, brought the cost of living below the ECB’s target of 1.9%. The eurozone’s economy shrank 0.6% last year but ECB rates are at 0.75%.

Rolls-Royce creates jobs at Heathrow

Aerospace giant Rolls-Royce has opened a £50m maintenance and support service centre at Heathrow airport that will create 20 jobs. The 95,000 square foot facility will employ as many as 60 people when fully operational, with 40 transferring from the existing Rolls-Royce facility at Heathrow. The centre will be open 24 hours a day and has space to store up to 30 large gas turbines. Shares in Rolls-Royce dipped by 9.0p to 1,079.0p.

ITV signs new deal with gaming firm

ITV viewers who like to gamble in the small hours will have yet more opportunities as the broadcaster is upping such programming to six nights a week, after signing a new three-year deal with interactive gaming firm NetPlayTV. ITV will share viewer data with NetPlayTV as it woos customers on mobile and online. ITV’s online, pay and interactive revenues jumped 26% to £102 million last year.
