British manufacturers are hitting the growth accelerator and creating 10,000 jobs a month, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply said today.

Its activity index, where a score over 50 indicates growth, soared to 57.3 in April — far higher than expected.

“The survey suggests manufacturers are creating jobs at a pace of around 10,000 per month at present,” said Markit senior economist Rob Dobson.
