Banking jobs market is back with a bang, says recruiter Robert Walters

The bankers are back in a booming UK jobs market, recruiter Robert Walters has declared.

The company saw the fastest growth in fee income at home — up 19% on last year — with “financial services and commerce finance performing particularly well”.

Profits this year will beat City hopes of £21.4 million.

Chief executive Robert Walters said: “Financial services have been through a torrid time although there have been areas like risk and audit that did well.

“Now we’re seeing an uptick in sales and marketing, the front-office staff of banking, and that is a sign of confidence returning.”

Commerce finance jobs — non-bank accounting staff — are also in demand, he added.

The recruitment chief said staff are more willing to take the job market plunge after years of caution as the recovery failed to take hold.

He added: “I would anticipate wage inflation to continue and the movement of jobs to improve.”

The firm also saw rapid growth in Asian markets like Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, and Taiwan. The shares added 16.75p, or 4%, to 429.5p.
