Billionaire Alec Gores among possible bidders for EMI

Diverse portfolio: both EMI and potential investor Alec Gores boast varied interests

Billionaire media investor Alec Gores is considering making a bid for British music company EMI from Citigroup, according to reports.

Warner Music's new owner, Len Blavatnik, and French media group Vivendi's Universal Music Group are also weighing bids for the company formerly owned by Guy Hands' Terra Firma group, Bloomberg reported.

EMI said earlier in June it had launched a strategic review to examine options, including a possible sale, recapitalisation or initial public offering.

The group, home to artists such as Katy Perry and Iron Maiden, said in a statement there was no certainty the process would result in a transaction.
