Balfour Beatty on alert over public spending cuts

11 April 2012

Construction group Balfour Beatty sounded a warning today over the impact of cuts in Government spending on infrastructure projects.

"There remain uncertainties in some parts of our markets, particularly with regard to Government funding of infrastructure investment," it said.

The firm does about half its business in the UK, where public spending cuts could hit projects from roads and railways to schools and hospitals.
But it added: "In other markets prospects remain robust. We remain confident about the outlook."

Orders at the end of June outstripped the £14.1 billion reported at the end of December. Balfour shares rose 6.4p to 243p.
