Anthony Watson

Hailed as “one of the most influential gay men in the world” as well as for his business and technology, Anthony G Watson is an inspiration to many.

No longer eligible for the Forbes’ Forty Under Forty list he has been featured on, Watson is still based in his home city where he is now chief executive officer of The Bank of London, the clearing, correspondent and wholesale bank he founded in 2021.

Watson started out as a theology student and as a Christian he reportedly was interested in becoming a minister. However, he had a conversion to the world of tech and worked for AOL before taking roles with Microsoft, CitiGroup and Unisys. He has often been outspoken about gay rights issues and given quirky quotes.

Upon launching Barclays’s Pingit service in 2009, he said: “The feedback we have had around Pingit in the media and on Twitter was amazing, we were in the top spot for a while with that launch, only porn stars get that sort of traffic.”
